This is a charming, funny, stupid, deeply 90s comedy about a girl who falls in love with an alien on the run from the government. The alien feeds on human flesh, taking over the bodies of its victims in the process. While in human form it discovers it FUCKING LOVES SPICES and showers and sex. The back cover compares Amanda and the Alien to a combination of Clueless and Species, which is not innacurate.
Given the budget and plot, perhaps the most amazing thing about this film is that most of the cast can actually act! Michael Dorn (Worf from Star Trek) plays a central role, and there are several funny Trek references thrown into the mix. Veteran actor Stacy Keach plays a wonderfully hateable government agent. And Nicole Eggert is a perfect lead for this tale, naively genuine and unshakeable in the wildest of circumstances, her presence reassures the viewer that this is all a reasonable premise despite what the logic centers of our brains may have to say about it.
At the end of the day, this is not a challenging film, this is a light-hearted romp that always gives you what you want to see, and there's nothing wrong with that.
