Wants to be fun, wants to be an action film, and it almost achieves on both counts. But there's a dark and serious side in Patrick Stewart's struggle with mental illness that simultaneously elevates this above the standard fare, and hamstrings its core appeal. It's a strange enough combination that I didn't take the more morose notes seriously for some time, in retrospect hoping that the thread would dissipate and let me enjoy myself. An interesting, though not fully successful film, with above average production value.
