Stephen Baldwin is a bad cop with a quick trigger finger, but when he gets assigned to the special SCAR squad, he learns that even he has moral limits. Yay? Stephen is not an actor who is capable of depth, but he's a fine choice for a beady-eyed cop who can sleep easy after killing a man, and despite his limitations, this was an easy watch from beginning to end.
The supporting cast helps a lot, with a number of familiar experienced faces in the crowd. Chazz Palminteri, who also appeared alongside Stephen as the lead investigator in The Usual Suspects, is the strongest talent on screen, regularly stepping in to keep the narrative on track and remind the audience what everyone's motivations are. DB Woodside, the principal from season 7 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, helps prop up the squad in his first movie role. And Tia Carrere gives a spirited performance as the primary target and love interest, helped in no small part by the script which gives her character the strength to stand up for herself and fire a gun like anyone else. Given the category this film falls into, and her character's employment as a sex worker, that wasn't at all a given, so kudos to Carrere and the writers.
On the whole, this was better than I expected. There was a ton of action, a stronger female character, and some pretty funny one-liners scattered throughout the script.
